Usyd Wireless Network

What is wireless?

 

The wireless data network will allow your laptop to connect to the University's network.

You can use the network to access your email, browse the Internet, or open a terminal session to a departmental server.

The University’s wireless network is available to all members of the University. You will need to have a UniKey account to access the wireless network.

Requirements

 
  • A current Unikey (Extro) account.
  • You will need a notebook computer with a wireless data card with 802.11b or 802.11g "wifi" standard.
  • One of the following operating systems: Windows XP, Windows Vista 32 bit, Mac OS X or Linux. Please note that Vista 64 bit and Palm pilots are not supported.
  • For external access you will need to have the Cisco VPN client installed on your machine. For information on how to setup VPN setup pages, please click here .

Setup Information

 

Want to connect to the USYD Wireless connection? Theres a few things you have to do first.

    Setup your account
    1.Activate your account for VPN

    Setup your laptop
    2. Setup the VPN Client
    3. Setup your Web Browser

    Connect
    4. Make sure you are connected to one of the USYD access points
    5. Connect your VPN client
Once you've done all of this you'll be connected to USYD's wireless network. Setup information and guides can be found here

Cost

 

You can use your daily free cache allowance. The free cache gives you 6Mb of external traffic per day for free. Please note that the free cache allowance will not work through VPN using the login!10.

There is no cost for the University's sites.

The standard web charges of 2c/Mb apply for external web traffic while using the paid cache. Costs for external Internet use are charged back to your UniKey (Extro) account.

Where can I access it from?

 

Most library and union buildings most have wireless access.
